Colin and Jamie
These two guys repaired the roughcast and redid the cement finish below floor level.
It looks a lot neater.
When the boys came with their invoice Colin told me Jamie was brought up in this house - so I had to invite them in to look round.
Jamie in his old room!
I'll let them come back when its finished.

Dormers
After the repairs were made by Steve.... Paul and Mick refelted the dormers. I climbed the ladder to inspect the last one but I didn't take my camera. I needed both hands to hold on - its a long time since I was able to scamper up and down scaffolding!
Doesn't that look better!

Roofline
Steve came with his chum Tom and expected to fit shiny new white plastic roofline goods but.... what a lot of rot they found when they started stripping the old facias. Scaffolding was borrowed from Mick and timber fetched from Jewsons and repairs started. A 2-3 day job took about 6 days in all including nearly being blown off the scaffold by the high winds.
3 wasp nests were found in the dormers |

Woodworm
As soon as the Christmas holidays were over a very nice man from Rentokil came and inspected our new house. You've got woodworm - we know that - and weevils in the floor in the bathroom - arghh - and wet rot - well that was obvious - and when the wet rot dries out it will turn into dry rot - oh dear.
Its all fixable so no worries there :-)
First of all chip off all the wet plaster and remove all the wet plasterboard:
Take out the toilet - and the sink might as well go too.
The Rentokil men spent two days - driving from and returning to Girvan each day! They removed and replaced the loft insulation is sections in order to fog the loft. They lifted floorboards in the bedrooms to treat under the floors. There was no infestation in the groundfloor so no treatment there.

The Purchase
On December 10 last year - my birthday - we took the keys for our new house. Not to live in, but a little project to keep me occupied - as if I didn't have enough to do.
Overgrown trees and tarpaulin hoping to keep the rain out! |
Woodworm in the bathroom floor! |
Someone has started to remodel the entrance hall. |
On the plus side there is cavity wall insulation and double glazing throughout
Extra glass wool layers too. |
